We apologize about the confusion out there concerning Channel 13 and other HDTV
frequencies.
By February 2009 the FCC will require TV stations to become High Definition (HD). The majority of the
departments using Care Trak equipment will not be affected but a few will. If you have or will have a
Channel 13 HD in your area you will need to upgrade your system to a new frequency.
You can check for any potential problems by visiting the FCC web site
(www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/audio/tvq.html)
or by giving us a
call at 1-800-842-4537. We have the most current list of existing TV stations and their frequency
allocations both now and where they will be post Feb. 2009. There is no need to replace your
CTI equipment or spend money. Contact Care Trak!
Care Trak is authorized to use frequencies from 174 thru 215 and will make any frequency
changes necessary "At No Cost To Your Department" (other than shipping to get the items back to us).
Regarding equipment to locate special needs individuals, is a change to the 216 frequency in your best
interests?
We can honestly say NO but you make the choice. Consider these facts when you make your decision:
-Radio telemetry devices first started coming onto the market in the late 1960's. Since then dozens and
dozens of telemetry companies and individuals, both nationally and internationally, have sold product
to fit many needs.
- Hundreds of thousands of pulsing transmitters have been put into the field throughout North America in
the 216-220 bands.
-Some of these transmitters are functioning 24 hours a day but many are only used for hours at a time.
They also are used at any time during the day or night. It is unpredictable where or when these will be
used.
- While a good signal on a dementia transmitter might get you 1/2 to 1 mile of range, many of these other
transmitters may get 3-5 miles or more. Transmitters are also much, much stronger than those used for
locating dementia clients.
-These companies will not stop building at 216. More equipment is going on that band daily.
Remember: the 216-217 band is shared by many kinds of transmitters, many of which are operated in random
locations and random times. It is very unpredictable. Interference from HDTV in the 174-215 MHz band,
that portion of the spectrum where Care Trak has its authorization, will be very predictable and treatable!
